Growing up in Jakarta, a progressive capital city, I never felt a strong urge to explore my roots. Living in a fast capitalist world has led me to ignore traditional beliefs and practices; focused on surviving instead of living. Dedicated in making the world a better place, I have disregarded that indigenous wisdom could be a guide to achieve that goal.
As I grew older, this has caused my mental health to worsen, as I struggle to find balance, identity, and a sense of belonging. In response, I’ve chosen to reconnect with my heritage by blending my cultural guidance with scientific experiments, I’m bringing traditional practices into a modern context. Through my work with a variety of bio-materials, I’m collaborating with both nature and culture, telling stories through mixed media art, such as film, sculpture, and painting. This fusion of the old and the new invites others to appreciate the richness of tradition, offering a new perspective on how impactful it is to understand and care about the personal ecology before solving the universal.
